He graduated in Medicine from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1999. He completed his residency in general surgery and thoracic surgery at the Hospital das Clínicas of the USP School of Medicine from 2000 to 2003. He defended his doctorate in the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery program at the USP School of Medicine in 2008 and completed his master’s degree at Harvard University in 2012. He passed the Licenciado Professorship in Thoracic Surgery at the USP School of Medicine in 2015. He was hired as an attending physician in the Thoracic Surgery Service of the Heart Institute (InCor/FMUSP) in 2006 and in the São Paulo State Cancer Institute (ICESP) in 2009, where he heads the Oncological Thoracic Surgery Service.
He was hired as a Professor of Thoracic Surgery (MS-3) at the USP School of Medicine in 2013 and currently holds the position of Associate Professor (MS-5). He is actively involved in various associations, having served as President of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the São Paulo Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (2012-2014). Since 2015, he has served as Scientific Director of the Brazilian Society of Thoracic Surgery, where he implemented the Brazilian Database and the unified training course for residents in minimally invasive surgery, in addition to establishing several partnerships with international societies. His areas of expertise and research focus on thoracic oncology (especially lung cancer and neoplastic pleural effusion) and minimally invasive surgery (video-assisted thoracoscopy and robotic surgery), and has published over 80 articles in journals indexed in PubMed.
