In May/2025, Dr. Marina Vidal dos Santos published the article “Males and females respond differently to treatment during isolated kidney perfusion: combined effects of glucocorticoid and estradiol” in the international journal “Frontiers in Transplantation” – which aims to promote basic, translational, and clinical science to save lives, improve clinical practice, and better manage transplant patients.

Dr. Marina Vidal dos Santos is a graduate of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery program and defended his doctoral thesis on August 15, 2025.

In April 2025, student Elizabeth Cristina Miola published the article “The role of sex hormones in intestinal injury after brain death using a surgical menopause model in rats” in the international journal “Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology” – which covers all topics related to the genetic, epigenetic, biochemical, and molecular aspects of endocrine research and cellular regulation.

Student Elizabeth Cristina Miola is regularly enrolled in the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery program.

Graduate: Dr. Samuel Padovani Steffen / Advisor: Prof. Dr. Fabio Biscegli Jatene

In January 2025, graduate Dr. Samuel Padovani Steffen published the article “Gene expression analysis of primary graft dysfunction in adult heart transplant recipients: A cohort study” in the international journal “JHLT Open” – which offers essential and up-to-date academic information in the field of cardiopulmonary transplantation, mechanical and biological support for heart failure, advanced lung disease (including pulmonary vascular disease), and cell replacement therapy.

Dr. Samuel Padovani Steffen is a graduate of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery program and defended his doctoral thesis on December 12, 2024.

In January 2025, graduate Dr. Tácia Tavares Aquinas Liguori published the article “Intrapericardial injection of hydrogels with ASC and their secretome to treat dilated cardiomyopathies” in the international journal “Scientific Reports” – an open-access journal that publishes original research from all areas of natural sciences, psychology, medicine, and engineering.

In April 2025, student Eserval Rocha Jr. published the article “The use of postoperative X-ray to evaluate residual pleural space and predict infectious pleuropulmonary complications after lung resection for infectious disease” in the international journal “Journal of Thoracic Disease” – where manuscripts describe new findings and provide practical, up-to-date information on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to thoracic disease.
